When we think of Fedora hats in fashion, we often think of them as being more masculine--Michael Jackson, Humphrey Bogart in "Casablanca", Freddy Krueger, and New York mobsters come to mind.
However, Fedoras were named after a 1882 French play "Fedora" where the main female protagonist wore the hat. It was originally considered a more "feminine" hat and even became a symbol for the women's rights movement!
